International Students

International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS)

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) is available to citizens of overseas countries (excluding New Zealand).  The IPRS is not available to continuing students. The IPRS pays a student's tuition fees for 3 years. It does not provide a living allowance or any other benefits. All eligible international students will also be considered for the University Postgraduate Award (UPA) living allowance.
IPRS applicants must not:

  • Have already completed a degree at the same level as the proposed candidature, or at a higher level;
  • Be overseas student who are currently studying on a scholarship sponsored by Australian Development Scholarship (ADS);
  • Be seeking to apply for an IPRS within two years of the completion of an Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) award;
  • Be receiving another equivalent award or scholarship or salary to undertake the proposed program.

Eligibility Criteria:  Bachelors degree with First Class Honours or equivalent results from a recognised University.

Stipend: Not Applicable.  Scholarship covers full tuition fee and Overseas Health Cover (OSHC).

Eligible Programs:  PhD, Professional Doctorate and Masters by Research degree.

Duration of Award:  Three (3) years full-time for Doctoral candidates and two (2) years for Masters by Research. Doctoral candidates may apply for a 6 month extension for research related reasons.*

* If an extension of scholarship is granted any further payments of health cover are not included.  HDR candidates will be required to meet the cost of any extensions of OSHC.

University Postgraduate Award (UPA)

UPAs are tenable only at the University of Wollongong.  They are available to graduates of Australian and overseas universities. 

Eligibility Criteria:  Hold or expect to obtain Bachelors degree with First Class Honours or equivalent results.

Stipend for 2009: $20,427.00* non-taxable

Other Benefits:  Thesis allowance*

Eligible Programs:  PhD, Professional Doctorate and Masters by Research degree.

Duration of Award:  Three (3) years full-time for Doctoral candidates and two (2) years for Masters by Research. Doctoral candidates may apply for a 6 month extension for research related reasons.

Closing Date for Applications:  Faculty of Creative Arts – 30th September – All other Faculties 17th October
