Domestic Students: Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents

Australian Postgraduate Award (APA)

Australian Postgraduate Awards are funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) and are available to Australian Citizens, New Zealand citizens or Australian Permanent Residents. 

Eligibility Criteria:  Bachelors degree with First Class Honours or equivalent results.

Stipend for 2009: $20,427.00* non-taxable

Other Benefits:  Relocation and thesis allowance*

Eligible Programs:  PhD, Professional Doctorate and Masters by Research degree.

Duration of Award:  Three (3) years full-time for Doctoral candidates and two (2) years for Masters by Research. Doctoral candidates may apply for a 6 month extension for research related reasons.

Closing Date for Applications:  Faculty of Creative Arts – 30^th September – All other Faculties 17^th October

*Stipends and allowances are indexed annually.

University Postgraduate Award (UPA)

UPAs are tenable only at the University of Wollongong.  They are available to graduates of Australian and overseas universities. 

Eligibility Criteria:  Bachelors degree with First Class Honours or equivalent results.

Stipend for 2009: $20,427.00* non-taxable

Other Benefits:  Thesis allowance*

Eligible Programs:  PhD, Professional Doctorate and Masters by Research degree.
