Hong Duc, Thanh Hoa - UOW Research Scholarship Program
Hong Duc University (HDU) and University of Wollongong (UOW), are jointly offering postgraduate research scholarships to qualified students from Vietnam seeking high quality research training.
Up to ten (10) PhD or Masters by Research scholarships will be provided per year scholarships per year to qualified candidates acceptable to UOW in research areas agreed with HDU, the student concerned, and UOW.
Selected Vietnamese students will enrol in a designated program at UOW and undertake research training to complete a Doctorate by Research degree within 3 years or a Masters by Research degree in 1.5 years. If the selected Vietnamese students successfully complete the requirements of the designated program and defend their dissertation, they will be conferred degrees from UOW.
The University of Wollongong (UOW)
The UOW is located in Wollongong, which is a multicultural city of 400,000 people. It is located 60 minutes by car or 90 minutes by train, south of Sydney. UOW has over 22,000 students, including 5,000 onshore international students.

Scholarship Amounts
Successful applicants will win an UOW-Hong Duc scholarship, which provides a stipend of AUD $15,000 per annum, an International Postgraduate Tuition Award (IPTA) and the cost of the Australian Government approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), for up to 3 years for PhD and up to 1.5 years for Masters by Research. This stipend will be disbursed to the scholarship student fortnightly, subject to students’ satisfactory progress.
An allowance of $1,500 will also be granted to each student each session ($3000 per year) for the purpose of accommodation, living expenses and travel associated with the research and field work of the Doctoral or Masters by Research study program.
The scholarship will also provide up to 12 weeks of English language tuition, if required, on a one-off basis to enable nominees of the UOW-HDU scholarship to reach the English language entry requirements of UOW. Note that no student stipend will be paid during this period of English language study.
HDU will also provide the cost of 1 return airfare to New South Wales.
Application procedure
1. Applicants will apply to HDU. HDU will provide a letter confirming that the applicant is supported for a UOW-HDU Research Scholarship. A copy of this letter must be uploaded with the UOW application. Potential applicants should contact HDU for internal HDU closing dates.
2. There are two possible intakes of HDU’s students every year. For the Spring session intake, which has a starting date of July, HDU will forward the applications to UOW by 1st April of that year. For the Autumn session intake, which have a starting date of March, HDU will forward applications to UOW by 30th November, of the previous year.
3. After receiving the HDU support letter, students must then complete the UOW on-line HDR application form available at: https://smp.uow.edu.au/app/servlet/Student;jsessionid=CE92F61458756B91CB5608F9E5C09227
• In the Scholarship section select: “Do you wish to be considered for a scholarship?” – Choose “Yes”;
• In the Sponsorship Details section select “Do you expect to receive a scholarship from another source?” Select “YES” and Select Sponsor “Thanh Hoa”.
