University postgraduate award for women in non-traditional research areas
This award is tenable only at the University of Wollongong and is available to female Australian or New Zealand Citizens or Australian permanent residents.
Eligibility Criteria: Bachelors degree with at least Second Class Division 1 Honours or equivalent results. In addition, candidates must enroll in an eligible program within the Faculty of Informatics or the Faculty of Engineering
Selection Criteria: The academic merit, research potential and track record of the candidate. The quality of the research environment, including track record (relative to opportunity) and expertise of supervisor(s) in the field of research, resources available to support the project and the strength of research in this area at UOW.
Stipend for 2010: $22,500* non-taxable. | Other Benefits: Thesis allowance
Eligible Programs: PhD, Professional Doctorate and Masters by Research degree.
Duration of Award: Three (3) years full-time for Doctoral candidates and two (2) years for Masters by Research. Doctoral candidates may apply for a 6 month extension for research related reasons.
Note: For DOMESTIC applicants, this award is also available for women who wish to study part-time. In this case the duration of the award will be 6 years for Doctoral candidates and 4 years for Masters by Research. The stipend payable for part-time candidates will be 50% of the full-time stipend, $11,250 in 2010.

University Postgraduate award for Indigenous Australians
This award is tenable only at the University of Wollongong and is available to Indigenous Australian citizens or indigenous permanent residents of Australia.
Eligibility Criteria: Bachelors degree with at least Second Class Division 1 Honours or equivalent results.
Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived Applicants will be asked to provide a letter from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation supporting their claim.
