Find an academic unit
- Your first step is to determine your preferred field of study, and find the Faculty or Department which will best meet your requirements.
- Your application will only be accepted if the University is satisfied it can provide you with a supervisor with appropriate expertise.
- You are encouraged to identify potential supervisors by visiting the staff pages of each Faculty and identifying a supervisor who matches your area of research interest.
- You may contact a potential supervisor to discuss your project prior to applying for admission.
Find a research topic
You should discuss with the Head of Academic Unit, Postgraduate Co-ordinator or prospective supervisor a broad plan for your research topic. Typically as your research progresses your thesis topic will become better defined. You are required to nominate a working title at the beginning of your enrolment but may change this at any time.

How to Enrol
Research only courses
If your application for admission is successful, you will be automatically enrolled into the appropriate subject code for the Major Thesis in your field of study. You do not need to attend an enrolment day or complete an enrolment form.
Your enrolment will be effective from the commencement of the relevant session, not from the date on which you enrolled. For example, if you receive an offer of admission in late March and enrol in April your enrolment will be considered to have started at the beginning of Autumn session in late February.
Coursework and research courses
If your degree includes a coursework component you will be sent enrolment information so that you can enrol in your coursework subjects. You will have the option of enrolling via the internet or completing an enrolment worksheet and returning it to the Student Administration for processing.
Once enrolled, you will be sent a confirmation of enrolment. You should check this carefully to ensure that all your candidature details are recorded correctly.
