Changing SupervisorsThere are a number of reasons why a student may wish to change supervisors. In the case of a supervisor going on extended leave or resigning from the University, the student should discuss new supervisory arrangements with both the current supervisor, the Academic Unit, and any potential supervisors. In situations where disagreement emerges between the student and supervisor, the student has a right to change supervisors without fear of penalty or persecution. The student should speak to the Head of Unit, in the first instance, and then to the Dean or Chair of the Faculty Research Committee as appropriate. For further information see Grievance Procedures in the Code of Practice— Supervision. Should you have a change in supervisor, your Head of Postgraduate Studies should notify the Research Student Centre in writing of the change. Alternatively you may indicate the change on the Annual Progress Report cover sheet.
