Leave of AbsenceWhat is Leave of Absence?Leave of absence (LOA) may be granted for medical, compassionate or other acceptable reasons. Students should discuss any periods of intended leave with their supervisors and the Head of Postgraduate Studies.
- All applications must be supported by appropriate documentary evidence and be approved by the supervisor and Head of Postgraduate Studies.
- Postgraduate candidates become eligible to apply for Leave of Absence at the beginning of the second session of registration.
International students must abide by their visa regulations regarding leave. Scholarship holders are advised to check with the Scholarships Officer regarding the effect of leave on their scholarship. Masters by Research students may be granted leave of absence for one or two sessions provided written application is made before the end of the fourth week of the first session for which leave is sought. Doctoral students may be granted leave of absence for up to four sessions provided that written application is made before the end of the fourth week of the first session for which leave is sought.
