Innovation and CommercialisationOverviewMissionThe Managers of Innovation and Commercialisation (MICs) will develop and enhance the commercialisation activities of the University of Wollongong through strong working relationships with both customers and stakeholders.
For external customers: industry, business, community and government agenciesVisionMICs will assist industry and business to access and work with the innovative research outcomes from the University of Wollongong. Description of ServicesMICs are the conduit between UOW commercialisation projects and industry. Ways that MICs can assist your business include:
- linking you with an appropriate University expert to provide commercial research services (i.e. in a consulting or contract research capacity) or to collaborate with you on a research project;
- identifying opportunities to jointly apply and benefit from Government funding (e.g. Australian Research Council Grants) or access University experts for a grant project (e.g. Commercial Ready Program); and
- accessing University Intellectual Property and negotiating agreements to protect your and the University's confidential information.
For internal customers: university researchers, academics, studentsVisionMICs will promote and add value to the high quality research outcomes from the University of Wollongong. Description of ServicesMICs will provide expertise and advice on intellectual property protection, licensing and company formation, and how to develop industry linkages. Specific ways that MICs can assist you are:
- identifying intellectual property that has commercial value and how to protect it (including initiation of patent protection by the University);
- determining which of several funding avenues is the most beneficial (e.g. grants, contract research, consultancies, scholarships);
- identifying and liaising with suitable industry partners;
- promotion of your research capabilities and expertise;
- training on commercialisation issues (e.g. industry liaison, IP protection);
- identifying commercialisation opportunities; and
- facilitation of the most appropriate commercialisation mechanism.
