Referring Matters to Legal Services
All requests to Legal Services must be made in writing by either a:
- Request for Legal Advice form**[ word file or .pdf file ].
This is to ensure we receive complete instructions and all the documents that we need in order to help you;
**subpoenas, summons or warrants must be referred to Legal Services as soon as possible and do not require accompanying forms.
- Approval Form [word file (108 KB)] and General Costings Sheet or Engineering Costings Sheet >Download Forms for commercial research activities - after it has been filled out and signed by Head of Unit, Dean and MIC. This is to ensure that your faculty has knowledge of the proposed research, has approved the research, and you have properly costed the project.
Providing complete and clear instructions will avoid unnecessary delays in understanding your request. As such, Legal Services will not accept requests without either of the above forms being completed and submitted.
Approval Forms are now processed as follows:-
**IMPORTANT**
SUBPOENAS, SUMMONS OR WARRANTS
Any subpoenas, summons or warrants delivered to the University MUST be referred to Legal Services as soon as possible.
This is because the University has a limited time in which to provide the information sought to the court or tribunal seeking it, or to challenge the validity of the subpoena or document.
This time could be a little as 3 days from the date of the subpoena (the date it was issued by the court - not the date it was received by you).
As such, it is vital that Legal Services receives the document as soon as possible.
