HREC New Applications

A Step by Step Guide to preparing a new application

Step 1. Preparing your application
Forms | Guidelines for completing applications | Where to get help with your application | Research involving the ISLHD | Health Information | using private information without obtaining consent | children | Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders will involve additional processes.

Step 2. Submitting your application
What to submit for general applications and clinical trials | When to submit depends on whether the application will be reviewed by the Full HREC or Expedited Review and which HREC, the Health and Medical HREC or the Social Sciences HREC | Fees for reviewing Clinical Trials | Indemnity

Step 3. Where do I submit the application?
The RSO is located on Level 1, Building 20 . Our office phone number is x3386 and fax number x4338 . If the project involves the ISLHD submit a copy to the Research Directorate of Wollongong Hospital

Step 4. How long will it take?
Applications for Expedited Review are reviewed within a week of receipt, after which you will receive a written advice regarding the outcome. Applications to the full Committee are reviewed at the next meeting of the appropriate HREC. You should receive a written advice regarding the outcome within 10 days of the meeting. DO NOT EXPECT YOUR APPLICATION TO BE APPROVED ON THE INITIAL REVIEW. Less than 10 % of applications are approved without modification or additional explanation. Most applications are approved within a week to 10 days of response to the written review.

Allow at least three weeks to obtain approval through Expedited Review, and six weeks if the application is reviewed by the full Committee.
