Overview of the Operational Committees

The operational committees are responsible for implementing policies and procedures within their jurisdiction. Each operational committee reports, through its Chair, to the URC and the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research). The Chairs of the operational committees are appointed by the PVC(R), normally for a term of two years at a time. Chairs may be, but need not be, on the URC already when appointed—if not, they shall automatically become members. The URC ensures that two or three of its academic staff members serve on each operational committee. The operational committees have a quorum which is equal to one half or, where one half is not a whole number, the whole number next higher than one half, of the total number of members for the time being of the Committee. Both genders are represented on each operational committee. There is an obligation on the operational committees, in particular the Chairs and administrative officers, to ensure effective horizontal liaison between committees.
