Research Partnership Golf Day
The annual Research Partnerships Golf Day was hosted by the Commercial Research Unit at The Links Shell Cove on Friday the 31st of July 2009. Eleven teams comprising of UOW employees and industry partners tackled the course in an Ambrose competition. The aim was to facilitate improved inter-personal relationships between research collaborators.
The Ambrose format proved to be a fun way for UOW researchers to build on relationships with industry partners in an informal, if not entirely competitive, environment. Industry attendees included Bluescope Steel, Booth Partners, DGB Lawyers, DMW Group, Dyesol, Ezyflow Logisitics, Lifeline, Novotel, Partech Systems, Plaut and Posco Steel (Korea). Participants commented that they enjoyed this novel interaction with their research partners. Some of this feedback is provided below.
“Thanks for organising the Golf Day on Friday. Despite being a non golfer I did have a good day”.
“I would like to thank you sincerely for the superb golf day we had yesterday at Shell Links”.
“It was particularly enjoyable and our team had a great time”.
“Thank you for going to the trouble to host this. I personally believe that it is a most worthwhile activity and one I hope you continue with”.
“Thank you for the great day on Friday; it was a pleasure to meet with UOW researchers and research partners”.
“So it's a happy story to add to the very pleasant day, an exciting round of golf, and a very well organised event”.
Competition for the Cup was tight but the overall winner on the day was the team of
(From L-R) Michael Waldie, Chris Maher, Gregg Rowland and Alan Pomering

All participants have indicated their support for this initiative and are very keen to once again compete for the Research Partnerships Cup in 2010. We look forward to attracting a larger field for next year with representation from all of the Faculties being a key objective. If you would like to register interest for next year or find out more about this event please contact Deb Langton (dlangton@uow.edu.au).
