Welcome from the Dean of Research

WHY UOW? - The University of Wollongong proves that size is no barrier to excellence when it comes to research. In fact, size is a big advantage when it results in a responsive, focused institution that facilitates interaction and collaboration between researchers from different disciplines and includes research students in a personalised and collegial research culture.
The University of Wollongong is one of Australia's best performing research institutions and is recognised internationally for research excellence. In the Excellence for Research in Australia (ERA 2015) research assessment exercise, UOW scored well above, or above world average, in 41 disciplines areas. In the QS World University Rankings UOW currently ranks 218th in the world, and 12th in the world for the QS top universities under 50 years old.
UOW has wide range of world class Research Priorities in which you can undertake graduate research, covering a comprehensive range of discipline areas in Business, Education, Engineering, Heath, the Humanitites, Information Technology, Law, Medicine, and Science.
UOW provides strong support for its HDR candidates via a range of tuition fee and living stipend scholarships, for both domestic and international candidates. UOW's scholarship round closes in October every year.
A range of different graduate research degrees are available including the MPhil, PhD, PhD (Integrated) and MRes. The PhD (Integrated) includes a year of formal coursework into the program to enhance the candidate's research skills and allow additional time to develop the research proposal. The Master of Research is a new research training pathway combining advanced research training and a substantial research project.
All of our research degree graduates are eligible to apply for a temporary graduate visa, which allows them to live and work in Australia, for up to four years.
