Educational Software Packages for Power Systems

Glover, Sarma and Digy: Educational Software Package , PWS Publishing Company, 1994
The package includes a software manual and simulation programs for power flow, short circuit and transient stability for power systems up to 100-bus. Other programs includes transmission line constants and steady state and transient operation, symmetrical components and basic matrix operation. For more information about its accompanying text book click here .

PowerWorld Simulation Package (ver2.0)
This is a Microsoft Windows 3.X based simulation/visualization package that can be usedthe basic aspects of power systems operation.

The package is useful in undergarduate power systems classess and for presenting the complexities of power systems operation to people involved in the electricity business with little or no technical background.

The newest version of this package can be obtatined via anonymous ftp at dharma.ece.uiuc.edu. The PowerWorld is copyrighted. Read conditions in the readme file of the package.

PCFLO (Version 3.0)
PCFLO is a PC-based program that performs loadflow, short circuit, and harmonics analyses (up to 100 bus systems).

The package can be obtatined from the University of Texas at Austin, Professor Grady ( Home Page.

Travelling Wave in Transmission Systems(LPS-2.0)
The ducational software tool LPS is designed for the study of travelling phenomena in electrical transmission systems. The computer-aided training program can be used to analyse the delay and attenuation of lightning surges along transmission lines, travelling wave reflections for various terminations and the function of surge arresters in the protection of high voltage equipment in electrical power systems. The mian features of this program are user friendly interface, easy data input and graphic presentation.

This program has been used in the 4th year electrical engineering courses at Monash University and at the University of NSW, and for the 1993 Residential School of Electrical Power Engineering. It has been proved that this computer software tool is very helpful for the students to understand some complicated experiments to explain the theory and problems involved.
