Presentation:
Abstract
Internet/Web in Support of Tertiary Education
The main thrust of this presentation is to demonstrate
the Internet/Web extensive resources and tools that can be
used to support tertiary education in general and to deliver
educational material in particular. A combined Web and Microsoft
delivery method was adapted for this presentation so that it
provides on-line information to be used for comparison purposes.
The MicroSoft Power Point program is used to deliver a short
presentation on the "The History of Internet". This is followed
by another presentation using the Web environment to explore the
advantages of the Web utilization for disseminating educational
material. Then, a comparison will be made between the two in terms of
- the hardware and software dependency,
- the flexibility and reusability of the final product,
- ease of development and use, and
- the availability of supporting resources (tools/groups/etc.)
Both presentations will show different media files that are normally
seen in multimedia educational materials.
The Web presentation also includes
- information about freely available Internet tools and resources
that may be used for the production of hypermedia oriented
teaching and learning support material and
-
demonstration on some Internet/Web education resources at national
and international levels.
Dr Doulai's Biography
Parviz Doulai is a lecturer in the Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering at the University of Wollongong.
He has extensive experience in adapting computer simulation
based teaching and learning approaches and developing
educational material on the WWW. This includes the conceptual
development of a Web environment for laboratory courseware
delivery, and publishing engineering education resources on
the Web.
He has been using the Internet and its extensive resources
in teaching and research since the birth of Australian Academic
and Research Network (AARNet). In 1994, he setup a Web site to
foster information sharing on computational hypermedia approaches in
engineering education. He has organized and chaired a panel discussion
on "Web and Internet in support of Engineering Education"
in 1995. He will be presenting two tutorial sessions at the
IEEE Int Conference on Multimedia in Education (M2E2'96)
focusing on the "Development of Computational Hypermedia Environment
for Tertiary Teaching". He has presented 16 seminars and demonstrations
in Australia and overseas on these topics.
