STEP to UOW Scheme

What is "STEP to UOW"?

STEP to UOW is a tertiary preparation program offered by the University of Wollongong to increase the educational opportunities for young people in our regional area who have experienced a disadvantage in their secondary education. Candidates are required to supply written documentation explaining the serious event or situation they believe has affected their HSC results.

STEP to UOW is a two semester bridging program offered through the Wollongong College Australia , aimed at assisting students to enter university who may not have otherwise qualified for direct entry to the University of Wollongong .

This program is part of an ongoing commitment by the University of Wollongong to provide opportunities and access to tertiary education to students attending schools in our region.

This program aims to encourage students to further develop their academic skills in preparation for university studies. In addition, students are able to enjoy social, cultural and recreational facilities at the University of Wollongong .

Who can apply for STEP to UOW?

STEP to UOW has been designed for students who have completed their Higher School Certificate at a high school in our region in 2007.

Students must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa and reside in Australia. Students need to be able to demonstrate their school studies have suffered because of circumstances beyond their control. The equity criteria for STEP to UOW includes one or more of the following:

  • Financial Hardship
  • Disrupted Schooling
  • Home and Environment Responsibilities
  • English Language Difficulty
  • Personal Illness/Disability

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students may also apply.

Students applying for STEP to UOW will need to provide documentation to support their application under these areas.

Please note: If you have already applied for special consideration through the Educational Access Scheme to the University of Wollongong you will still need to provide documentation supporting your case for this application. For more detailed information on these criteria please refer to the application form.

How to apply for STEP to UOW

Applicants for STEP to UOW will need to apply directly to the Wollongong College Australia to be considered for entry to the program. Application forms can be obtained by contacting 1300 367 869 or they can be downloaded.

If you have applied through UAC (Universities Admission Centre) you will need to complete the STEP to UOW application form and quote your UAC number.
