Application Procedure

Completed application forms should be forwarded to the Study Abroad & Exchange Office, at the University of Wollongong through your Study Abroad or sponsoring program office. Direct applications will be accepted but must be accompanied by a recommendation from a Study Abroad Adviser or faculty member.

As part of the application process all students must submit a supporting letter from a member of Faculty or the Study Abroad Office at their own institution and an original copy of their most recent academic transcript.

Application deadline and start dates

Students may begin their study in February, July or December.

  • Autumn session (February-June) applications are due by November 1st of the previous year.
  • Spring session (July-November) applications are due by April 1st of the same year.
  • Summer session (December-February) applications are due by September 1st of the same year.

Applicants are normally notified of the selection decision within two weeks of receipt of their application. Successful candidates will receive a letter of offer and a request to send a formal acceptance of the offer, health insurance payment and tuition fees for one session. We will send you, at the same time, application forms for University accommodation and other information to assist you in preparing for the trip to Wollongong.

Health cover

All overseas students at Australian universities must contribute to the Overseas Student Health Cover Scheme (OSHC). This entitles students to basic medical and hospital care. Costs vary depending on the period of stay. Payment for the OSHC should be made at the same time as tuition. Please note the OSHC does not cover dental, optical and physiotherapy services.

Obtaining a student visa

Once your acceptance of offer and fees are received, the Wollongong Study Abroad Office will send you the Confirmation of Enrolment form, which will enable you to obtain a student visa from your nearest Australian High Commission, Embassy or Consulate.

Students should contact the nearest Australian diplomatic office as soon as possible after receiving their offer. As medical checks and x-rays are normally required, it is important to allow time for this. Australian Diplomatic Office Information can be found at www.immi.gov.au.
