Study ToursWhat is it?Another option that may be available to you is going on a Study Tour with your chosen faculty. Study Tours give you the opportunity to travel overseas and complete part of your university studies in an international context. They are also ideal for students who would like to travel abroad but do not want to go for a semester or year.
Faculty of CommerceStudents from the Faculty of Commerce have had the opportunity to embark on an overseas Study Tour for two weeks that allowed them to focus on their particular areas of interest in the context of an overseas country.
In 2005, Faculty of Commerce students could travel to Spain or Dubai where they attended lectures in the host country, visited tourist and industry sites and learnt about local culture. Students were required to enrol in a special research subject and complete a research project under the supervision of an academic from their chosen discipline. Faculty of ArtsFor students studying in the Faculty of Arts, you could also have the opportunity to participate in a Study Tour within the Japanese language discipline. The tours have involved a three week Japanese In-country program to Kawasaki, Japan. The in-country program is a compulsory component of the Japanese major. The aims of the program are to:
- develop performance in speaking and understanding what is spoken in Japanese
- to experience research in Japan
- to develop reading and writing skills with an emphasis on functional literacy
- to experience living with a Japanese family
- and to develop an understanding of the capacity to operate and communicate in Japan's cultural environment
Student TestimonialGoing on a Study Tour to Dubai was one of the best decisions Ive ever made. I learnt so much over there, not just about the project I was going to complete but also about the culture and about myself in general. I think that not many people would choose to visit Dubai, but it is an amazing place and the study tour was an excellent experience. It was a great way to do exchange in another country without having to go for a full semester.

>>Robert and Leia in Dubai with locals<< I believe the Study Tour to Dubai has developed my independence and also made me more conscious of cultural differences and the danger of assumptions. It has also developed my interpersonal skills not only through dealing with people from different backgrounds but also approaching people without our own study group and dealing with group dynamics.
