Other Travel Options

As well as travelling in the uni holidays, there are a number of other options available to you.

This could mean however, that you would have to put your university studies on hold for six months or a year, and therefore extend the length of your degree.

Some options you might like to consider include:

  • Camp Counselors USA: work as a Camp Counselor at summer camps across the USA! See www.ccusa.com for more details.
  • Intern USA: work for up to 18 months anywhere in the USA, in a job that’s related directly to your university studies. See www.statravel.com.au for further details.
  • Volunteer and Work Abroad: Programs run from one week to one year, and give you the opportunity to help support local communities around the world, together with learning about a new culture. Once at the University of Wollongong, you can visit our local branch of STA Travel for more details, or visit www.statravel.com.au .

For more details on the programs listed above and to find out what else is available, visit the University of Wollongong STA Travel branch and pick up a brochure on a program that appeals to you!

There are many other international opportunities available which could enrich your time at university. Such programs show employers you have initiative and that you are willing to take on new experiences and be thrown “into the deep end”. Volunteer and work abroad programs especially show future employers that you are community focused, and willing and able to take on a challenge.

Gap Australia run programs that offer 17 to 25 year olds the opportunity to live and work overseas for up to a year, as a volunteer. In return for their voluntary service, students are given full board, accommodation, and at most placements, weekly pocket money. The Gap program is about volunteering first and travelling second.
For more information on the volunteer programs and destinations available, visit the Gap Australia website at http://www.gapactivityprojects.org.au

Intern in Europe and add value to your degree! Find an internship or graduation assignment in Europe at the following webpage: www.europlacement.com
