Questions:

What excited you most about coming to uni?
Meeting new people, learning about things I am interested in and experiencing new things

How were your expectations met?
Very well, I have made heaps of new friends, I study subjects I find really interesting and have experienced many new things, particularly socially

Have you faced any unexpected challenges?
I made the mistake in enrolling in a subject that I wasn’t sure about and failed to withdraw in time. But I passed the subject because I knuckled down and studied hard.

Have you had any pleasant surprises?
Yes, the Academic staff are so helpful! I had assumptions that they would be arrogant old men and women, and so far I’ve met none like that! All are more than willing to help and want me to do well in my subjects.

Why did you want to come to uni in the first place?
I wanted to learn about military history and international relations.

When did you know that you wanted to come to UOW?
When I realised how good the university is and how close it is to where I live, why would I want to go to Sydney when I’ve got one of the best universities right at my door?

What do you like best at UOW? Why?
Hanging out with mates and getting to go to the gym in between classes.

If you had to give somebody one reason—and one only—to study at UOW, what would it be?
Its awesome, everyone is heaps friendly, the campus is awesome and the subjects are interesting and challenging, I mean for those reasons …why wouldn’t you?

What’s your favourite class? Why?
At the moment POL224- Politics and the media, my tutes are really good. Everyone gets involved because we discuss the media and its impact on society and politics. It is so relevant especially when watching the news and the media in general.

Where’s your favourite spot on-campus?
URAC.

Favourite thing about being at Uni?
The freedom to do what I want, there is little outside pressure, so I have to motivate myself which I really like.

What do you like best about Wollongong?
My house because it houses my drum kit.

Why did you choose your particular degree?
It was the area that housed the subjects that I was most interested in that I think will assist me in my future career.

What kind of career might you like to pursue after graduation?
I want to work for the Defence force in the PR department…either that or become a rock star.

What got you interested in this field?
My interest in the military.

Do you think studying at UOW is preparing you for the future? If so, how?
Most defiantly, I am developing skills that will stay with me throughout my life and help me, especially my writing and analytical skills.

What have you learned about yourself while studying at UOW?
That if I put effort in I can achieve high marks, that through high school I failed to achieve, mainly due to lack of effort.

If you participate in any extracurricular activities, how have they impacted on your experience at UOW?
I practically live at URAC at the gym and through that I’ve made many friends.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest difference between studying at high school and studying at UOW?
The freedom, I get to choose what I study, when I study it (when I pick my tutes) furthermore, you’re treated as much more of an equal.

How are they most alike?
They aren’t really that similar, I mean sure you’re learning that’s about it in my opinion.

What activities are you involved in off-campus?
I play in a band, play league, work three part time jobs and fit uni in around those.
