Questions:

What excited you most about coming to uni?
The opportunities to learn, to develop a new friend base in Wollongong, to meet international students, sporting development and living the uni life at UOW.

Have you had any pleasant surprises?
Class types, times and structures were easy to adjust to. I initially found it hard to make a solid friend base at uni until I moved on to campus and now I’m overwhelmed with uni friends. I was pleasantly surprised with the lunchtime sports available and the facilities open for all students and how easy it was to get to know people from different countries and cultures. The number of students involved in social functions and the range of music concerts and daily entertainment provided free of charge or at an extremely low cost to students was also a nice surprise!

When did you know that you wanted to come to UOW?
I always wanted to come to UOW because of how environmentally and geographically spacious and beautiful the campus is. UOW is also close to my family home and easily accessible through a number of public transport options. I also had existing friends here and knew the Commerce program was successful and practical compared to other universities. After looking at other Sydney uni’s I knew that the stress of getting to and attending classes in a concrete jungle atmosphere was not going to let me enjoy my studies and would therefore discourage me from doing well.

What’s it like living on-campus?
Living on campus was the most entertaining year of my life to date! There are always things happening, new people to meet and sporting events to participate in.

What have you taken from the experience?
I MUST travel!! I want to meet up with all the wonderful international students that I spent a semester with whilst living on campus. Every single person that attends UOW has something different to offer!

Why did you choose your particular degree?
The Bachelor of Commerce uses a practical approach to business which first attracted me to the degree. Also the high graduate job rate other students had experienced was very appealing!

What kind of career might you like to pursue after graduation?
Ideally something in Sports Marketing, market research and marketing strategy.

Do you think studying at UOW is preparing you for the future? If so, how?
Yes, because of the practicality of my course and the number of tutors, lecturers and co-ordinators that have experience in their field and who are more than willing to pass it on to their students!

What have you learned about yourself while studying at UOW?
I have learnt to branch out into different friend bases, the ability to control my own study patterns and I’ve also discovered my passion for travel and other cultures!

How have extracurricular activities impacted on your experience at UOW?
I have learnt to branch out into different friend bases, the ability to control my own study patterns and I’ve also discovered my passion for travel and other cultures!

Is there anything you’d like to add?
Employers in Wollongong are always prepared to give UOW students a chance over other less enthusiastic local kids. There is something for everyone to enjoy (Clubs and Socities) and the more you get involved, the broader range of people you meet.

Overall, the more you put in the more you get out!!
