Quality Forum celebrates period of self reflection @ UOW

We all know that self reflection is good for us and the University of Wollongong has recently undergone a period of intense self reflection as part of its preparation for its Cycle 2 Audit by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA).

To celebrate the efforts of the self-review teams in faculties and units and to share the outcomes, over 50 staff came together for a Quality Forum held last week (16 July).

The Forum was the culmination of five months of critical assessment and information-gathering; it was an opportunity to provide feedback, share outcomes and acknowledge the huge contribution of University staff.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rob Castle took the opportunity to thank the staff for their efforts in undertaking such a thorough and honest assessment of their performance in relation to the Audit themes – Enabling Undergraduate Learning and International Activities.

“The Self Review has been a critical part of our preparation for the AUQA audit, it has helped us to  identify those areas where we are doing well, those areas where we can do better, and has reinforced our already strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement”, Professor Castle said.

Every faculty and most of our professional units took part in the self review including the regional and offshore campuses and centres. 

The University’s audit by AUQA will take place from 28-31 March 2011.

AUQA, established in 2000, is an independent national agency, responsible for assuring the quality of Australia’s universities and enhancing academic excellence.  It promotes quality assurance and conducts in-depth audits of institutions on a five year cyclical basis.  UOW was first audited in 2005 (cycle 1) and 2011 will see a review of progress in areas previously identified for improvement, along with detailed examinations of the two key theme areas.
