Modules & Resources
The modules listed here are intended to supplement the seminars for students enrolled in LAW 994. They will be of general value to all research students in Law.
The first two modules include exercises which students of LAW 994 are expected to complete within the time frame specified on the page.
The Research Student Office runs Thesis Writing Workshops as part of their Higher Degree Research Student seminar series. In 2005 these will be held on 3 successive Wednesdays (4, 11, 18 May). They are recommended. Note also their workshop on working with long documents in Word, which should be particuarly useful for students in the writing up their thesis and combining chapters.
Two other modules have been developed by the Law Library, University of Wollongong. One of these is a very useful checklist for the use of postgraduate students, to make sure they are able to make full use of the library and the on-line databases to which it gives access.

The other module developed by the Library is the subject LLB 9395 Legal Research and Writing. This course (on-line via WebCT plus 3 x 2hr seminars) was developed primarily, for the use of undergraduate students. People with recent experience in legal research in Australia will probably find much of this course unnecessary, but others may find it beneficial. Speak to Associate Dean (Research) - Associate Professor Greg Rose for advice.
Using EndNote
All research students in Law should begin to use EndNote, a bibliographical computer program, as soon as they begin to research their thesis. The application should be on all Faculty computers, and may be loaded to personal computers by borrowing a CD from the reserve desk. A self-guided tutorial is available through the Library.
You should do a course in using EndNote which is available free of charge to research students through the Higher Degree Research Student seminar series. Be sure to register. How to register can be seen at the bottom of the Higher Degree Research Student seminar series page.
