Faculty of Law

Postgraduate Research Funding

The Faculty of Law administers funding for postgraduate research students to assist their research work. Funding is intended to assist students to complete high quality theses on time.

Research assistance for higher degree research students is drawn from the Faculty Research Fund. This is administered by the Associate Dean (Research)

These funds are separate from research funds allocated by the University to University Research Strengths associated with the Faculty of Law, i.e.the Institute for Conservation Biology and Environmental Management (ICBEM) and the Institute for Transnational and Maritime Security (ITAMS-comprising the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) and the Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention (CTCP)).

The Research Strength funds are administered directly by ICBEM and ITAMS, not the Faculty of Law. For this reason, students of the Research Strengths should make requests for funding to the directors of the relevant centre rather than the Faculty.

HDR students enrolled in the Faculty of Law but not supervised within a University Research Strength may apply for Faculty funds under the following categories:

  1. Conference support (using the HDR Conference support application form and following the HDR Conference support guidelines); and
  2.  Research support (including for fieldwork activities) (using the HDR Research support application form and following the HDR Research support guidelines).

Requests for minor expenses for items or activities that do not come within either of the above two schemes should be made via e-mail to the Associate Dean (Research).
