About Us
The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) is the award of the University of Wollongong for students who successfully complete the Professional Legal Training (PLT) Course. The PLT Course is accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) as a qualification for law graduates who wish to apply for admission as legal practitioners in New South Wales.
Our Course is designed to:
- provide the curriculum content required under the national Uniform Admission Rules and the LPAB Guidelines for PLT Courses, as now outlined in the Statement of Competency Standards for Entry-level Lawyers;
- meet the general principles of the legal education policy of the Law Society of New South Wales and its general pre-admission training aims;
- meet the standards of institutional professional legal training adopted by the Australasian Professional Legal Education Council (APLEC); and
- be consistent with the philosophy, aims and objectives of the Faculty of Law and of the University of Wollongong.
The UOW GDLP was the first PLT Course in Australia to offer recognition of prior skills training and professional experience and to offer flexible delivery combining on-campus and off-campus training. We have extended our flexible delivery by incorporating a powerful online program which gives students access to Course resources, materials and communication tools. Importantly, it allows them to submit their assignments online, from any computer. So, more than ever, our PLT Course offers flexibility for students with employment, family and financial responsibilities.
The Faculty of Law and the Professional Legal Training Program enjoy a reputation for quality in teaching and research, a high level of student satisfaction and excellent graduate outcomes. We invite you to visit our website to learn more about our course, the people who deliver our program, and the benefits of completing your PLT at the University of Wollongong.
