When I first started with the University of Wollongong Law Students’ Society I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed second year student. The energy and enthusiasm of my peers in delivering unique services and opportunities to fellow law students was infectious. Participating in extra-curricular activities was for me the beginning of a whole new university experience. Now in my third year of a Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of Laws, I have the pleasure of leading our team with an end to providing you with that same richer, more rewarding UOW experience. The friends I have made and the skills I have gained are comparable to none – getting involved really is a no-loss proposition for every student.
Our society is run by a committee of elected students who offer their time and efforts on a completely voluntary basis. The LSS has a strong relationship with the faculty of law; we have our own Constitution, Office Bearers and Executive Committee. Two brands of membership exist for our students, Academic and Social. For more information about any of these matters please browse our site using the tabs to the left of your screen.
The objectives of our organisation are to offer a wide range of competitions, publications, social events as well as education and career support for our students. We represent the University Of Wollongong Law Students at both a university level and national level. Internally, the LSS has a seat on the Faculty Advisory Committee and Faculty Education Committee, as well as seats on the Faculty Committee. The LSS Executive often meets with the Dean of Law and we encourage feedback, suggestions and ideas from students with a view to facilitating faculty-student communication.
At a national level, the LSS is a member of the “Australian Law Students Association,” who is the national body for Australian law students. The LSS has two seats on the ALSA Council that meets three times a year.
Please take the time to browse through our website and see what your LSS has to offer. The LSS always welcomes new volunteers and members so if you are interested in getting involved or would like to know more about us please feel free to contact me by email at president@uowlss.com.
