Course Structure

The GDLP is a blended learning program that combines face-to-face learning with online delivery and integrates both coursework and professional experience through a combination of on-campus and off-campus activities.

Coursework
The coursework part of the GDLP may be completed either on a full-time basis over a 20 week period or on a part-time basis over two academic sessions. The Course uses face-to-face and online teaching and learning strategies to provide you with the information that you need to complete course activities and assignments.

On-line Learning & Teaching
The Course employs a substantial online learning program. One of the main features of the program is that apart from providing links to resources for your subjects, it also gives you access to communication, information and interactive components that allow you to complete your coursework almost entirely online: Course calendar,  mail & discussion tools, assignment materials, assignment specifications, assessment criteria and assignment submission links.

You will need access to the internet to enable you to conduct research, download and read materials, submit assignments and communicate with staff, external visiting practitioners and with other students. We use the University's eLearning program to deliver our online component and you will need to ensure that your computer browser can be configured to accommodate the eLearning program. Details of how to check your browser compatibility and the information that you need to configure your browser may be accessed through http://www.uow.edu.au/its/vista/

Professional Experience
The Course includes a period of 80 days of professional experience, up to 20 days of which may be credited for prior legal experience that meets the guidelines. (For University of Wollongong students, placements undertaken in LLB190/311 will be credited towards the GDLP professional experience.) Any remaining days must be completed either during the coursework part of the GDLP or within 6 months of completing the coursework. It is also possible to gain credit for up to a further period of 20 days professional experience gained not more than 6 months before commencing the GDLP, where the proposed professional experience and supervision requirements have been approved and registered with the Director, before commencing the legal work placement.
