LLB 844 Practice Management (8cp)

This subject will introduce students to the statutory and professional requirements in relation to clients' Trust moneys and securities, and to principles of practice management including computerised accounting and recording systems, costing, risk management and related matters. The subject contains three inter-related modules.

Module 1: Trust And Office Accounting
This module encompasses basic accounting principles, and the obligations of solicitors in relation to clients' trust moneys under the Legal Profession Act 1987, the Legal Profession Regulations 1994, the Income Tax Assessment Act and the Privacy Act.

Module 2: Law Office Management
This module covers aspects of managing the financial operations of a legal practice efficiently, profitably, and cost-effectively in the delivery of client services.

Module 3: Risk Management Education Program
A seminar dealing with aspects of compliance, quality assurance and good practice in client service, and the avoidance of professional negligence claims: presented by LawCover.
