Research Into Court Policy and Management

Recent Research Projects of the Centre for Court Policy and Administration include:
  • Litigants in Person Research Note to AIJA Conference, September 1998 -
    FULL TEXT
  • Commodification of Justice and the Re-Privatisation of Private Property -
    FULL TEXT
  • Gender Bias in Civil Litigation (funded by the Law foundation of NSW),
  • Benchmarks for Client Services in Local Courts 2nd edition ONLINE.
  • Case Management and Delay,
  • Spatial aspects of the location and design of courts. 'Representing Justice'
Other policy issues which have come to the attention of the Centre through teaching and research have included significant developments in debates on
  • Costs of Justice,
  • Judicial Independence and the Appointment of Judges,
  • Accountability of Courts,
  • The Proliferation of Tribunals and their Rationale.
The Centre takes the view that issues of court management should be dealt with in an integrated way. A strictly econometric view is not suited to understanding the full range of issues impinging on issues such as judicial appointment and the costs of justice. Nor is a legal view, detached from an understanding of the financial, administrative and political dynamics, liable to give an adequate picture of those issues.
