The Centre for Court Policy and Administration
began operation in 1991. It is located within the Faculty
of Law at the University of Wollongong. The Centre fosters
research and teaching on the policy and practice of the management
of courts and tribunals in Australia. It is a meeting place
for those involved in the administration of courts and tribunals
and provides opportunities for research and training otherwise
unavailable in this country.
An Advisory Committee, comprising
members of the judiciary, policy makers and those employed
in the management of the courts, assists the Centre to stay
in touch with the practice of court management.
Courts in Australia and North America
are recognising new challenges by taking a more analytical approach
to management and by adopting new ways of handling litigation.
Australian and international practice and research is rapidly
changing the options available to courts.
The Centre is established as a clearing
house for quality and writing on these issues. It offers
consultancy and advice to courts and departments in areas
ranging from case flow and litigation management to the
evaluation of court programs and other policy initiatives.
In 1998 the Centre hosted the Representing
Justice Conference The Centre
for Court Policy and Administration and its also offer a
wide range of opportunities for research and coursework
in a variety of areas.
