* Mr. Ziqiang Tang, Senior Lecture at Chang'an University and Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP), presented a paper entitled: "Chinese Courts and Judicial Independence" on 05 November 2008. The seminar was held by CLDSAP.

*Prof. Chris Arup, Professor of Business Law in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University, presented a paper entitled: "WTO, Patents and Pharmaceuticals - International Demands and National Resources" on 01 October 2008. The Seminar was jointly held by CLDSAP and the Faculty of Law.

*Prof. Christoph Antons, Director of the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP), presented a paper entitled: “Traditional Knowledge and Intellectual Property Rights in Asia: Global Agendas, Local Subjects” on 27 August 2008. The Seminar was jointly held by CLDSAP and the Faculty of Law.

*Mr. Yuichiro Nakaya, Patent Examiner of the Japan Patent Office and Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific, presented a paper entitled: “What are Japanese Patent Examiners Doing? Japan Patent Office’s Efforts toward Expeditious and Efficient Patent Examination” on 22 May 2008. The Seminar was jointly held by the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP) and the Faculty of Law.

*Prof. Christoph Graber, University of Lucerne presented a paper entitled: “Developing Legal Safeguards for Traditional Cultural Expressions: Collisions of Archaic and Modern Patterns of Social Organisation” on 31 October 2007. The seminar was jointly held by the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP) and the Legal Intersections Research Centre (LIRC).

*17 September 2007 The Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP) in co-operation with the Asian Law Centre (ALC) at the University of Melbourne organised a workshop on “Approaches to Law and Development in the Asia Pacific Region” Speakers at the workshop included Professor Antons (University of Wollongong), Professor Gessner (University of Bremen, Germany), Professor Alex Ziegert (University of Sydney), Professor Andrew Harding (University of Victoria, Canada), Professor Tim Lindsey (Federation Fellow, University of Melbourne), Professor John Gillespie (Monash University), Gabriel Garcia (UOW) and Dr Luke Nottage (University of Sydney). Möllers from the Institute for European Legal Systems, Augsburg University and the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center visited the Centre on 28 February 2007 and presented a paper entitled “Enforcement in European Unfair Competition Law”. The seminar was jointly held by the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific (CLDSAP) and the Legal Intersections Research Centre (LIRC).

*Professor Dr. Thomas M.J. *Prof. Megan Richardson of the University of Melbourne visited the Centre on 17 October 2006 and presented a paper entitled “Folklore and Law in the 21st Century: The Case of the Ka Mate Haka”.

*Prof. Oliver Mendelsohn of La Trobe University visited the Centre on 19 July 2006 and presented a paper entitled “Lion or Jackal” The Indian Legal System as Support or Impediment to Development”.

*Dr Harald Baum, of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign Private Law and Private International Law visited the Centre in the first week of March 2006 and presented a paper entitled “Outsider vs. insider based models of corporate governance”. The seminar was jointly held by the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific and the Legal Intersections Research Centre (LIRC).

2005

*10 November 2005 (Wollongong, Australia). Dr Luke Nottage, of the University of Sydney and Australian Network for Japanese Law, presented a paper at the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific entitled “Nothing new in the (North) East Comparing corporate governance and social responsibility rhetoric and reality in Japan”.
