Andrew graduated from Sydney University with the University Medal in History. He worked as a research assistant in the History of Ideas Unit at the Australian National University under the late Professor Eugene Kamenka before commencing a PhD on the history of legal aspects of labour regulation in the Research School of Social Sciences (ANU). His thesis, entitled "Law and Industrial Arbitration in New South Wales,1890-1912", was completed in 1990.

Before joining the Faculty Andrew also worked as a research officer for the New South Wales Law Reform Commission, mainly on its Community Law Reform Program.

Research Areas
Australian employment and labour relations law; international and comparative labour law: and history of labour law.
