Ainslie has enjoyed two overlapping legal careers, first as
an employed and self-employed solicitor in general practice,
then as a legal educator in the practical legal training of
law graduates preparing for admission to practice. In the second
career, she gathered experience and expertise at the Leo Cussen
Institute in Victoria and at the Law Society of Upper Canada
(Ontario) Toronto, Canada, before being appointed as Director
of the PLT Unit at Wollongong University in 1994. In that
role, she has developed an alternative PLT Course, which was
accredited in its current flexible delivery mode by the NSW
Legal Profession Admission Board in 1997 as a qualification
for admission to practice in New South Wales.
Research Areas Areas of academic and professional interest include: legal
education in all its facets; problem-based learning; professional
skills development; the legal profession and legal ethics; workplace
learning; cross-cultural legal and communication issues, particularly
in relation to Australia's reconciliation with its indigenous
people; family law practice.
Professional Activities Ainslie has also had a long association with community legal
centres, and with adult community education. She has also served
on committees of the Law Institute of Victoria, the Law Society of New South Wales and the Legal
Profession Admission Board of New South Wales. In 2003 she was
made Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to the
Legal Profession, Legal education in relation to cross-cultural
and indigenous issues, and community education.
