Abstract

Recently, the more recognition of importance of patents for innovation is maturing, the bigger the number of patent applications is growing all over the world. Japan Patent Office (JPO) as one of main patent offices in the world is now struggling with this “Flood” of patent applications.  This seminar, introducing what a JPO’s examiner is doing and thinking in the course of patent examination, will brief about the Japanese patent system and the current situation surrounding patent examination and explain about JPO’s efforts toward expeditious and efficient patent examination.

Mr. Yuichiro Nakaya is a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific sponsored by the Japanese government fellowship program.  He has thirteen years experience working for JPO/METI. He has mainly worked in the patent examination area but he also has experience in dealing with international intellectual property issues as the Deputy Director.  He graduated from Tokyo University.
