IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING LLB COURSE PROGRAMS – APPLICABLE TO ALL LLB STUDENTS (updated 13 November 2008)
In 2006 the Faculty introduced a new 4-Year LLB degree. In that year combined LLB courses were rescheduled so that they could be harmonised with the 4-Year degree. We received feedback from other Faculties that they were having difficulty accommodating the 2006 combined degree course program. In response to this the Faculty of Law has implemented a new combined degree course program that will be in force 2007 onwards.
Set out below is information indicating the relevant the course programs to be followed by all LLB students.
Students who commenced PRIOR to 2006
You should follow your pre 2006 course program.
Please ensure that you enrol in the version of the subject that appears in your course program. DO NOT enrol in the version of the subject which appears in the 2006 or 2007 course program. For example if you wish to enrol in Lawyers and Australian Society, you should enrol in LLB311 and not LLB190.
The only exception to the above is where you have not completed LLB200, LLB210 and LLB304. In these cases you will need to take equivalent subjects under the 2007 course program. You must contact the Sub-Dean for advice in this regard.
As a result of the introduction of the new 4 year LLB and revised combined LLB programs, the following subjects are being phased out.
LLB210 Law of Contracts |
Offered last time in 2006 |
LLB304 Criminal Law & the Process of Justice |

LLB392 Communication Skills |
Offered last time in 2007 |
LLB311 Lawyers and Australian Society |
Offered last time in 2008 |
LLB391 Dispute Management Skills |
Offered last time in 2008 |
LLB394 Advocacy Skills |
Offered last time in 2008 |
LLB393 Drafting Skills |
To be offered last time in Aut09* - TBC |
Students who commenced in 2006
You have a choice of continuing with the 2006 course program or following the more flexible 2007 course program.
If you are commencing the first year LLB component of your combined degree in 2007, you will need to be placed in seminar groups for first year LLB classes. You can do this by downloading and completing the Seminar Preference Sheet and returning it to the Faculty of Law Office by 12 February 2007. You should also attend the Faculty of Law’s Orientation Day on Wednesday, 21 February 2007 (67.104, 2pm - 4pm).
If you are undertaking second year LLB subjects in 2007, you will need to register in a seminar group via SOLS/SMP. Please refer to the notice on the Faculty of Law website.
Students commencing in 2007
You should follow the 2007 course program. When you enrol on 30 January 2007, you will be given a Seminar Preference Sheet to complete. You will be advised of your seminar group and subject timetable on the Faculty of Law’s Orientation Day on Wednesday, 21 February 2007 (67.104, 2pm - 4pm).
