Centre for Court Policy and Administration (1991-2001)
The Centre for Court Policy and Administration was established in 1991 under the directorship of Professor Helen Gamble as one of the foundation research and postgraduate teaching centres of the newly formed Faculty of Law at the University of Wollongong . The Centre fostered research and teaching on the policy and practice of the management of courts and tribunals in Australia, providing a meeting place for those involved in the administration of courts and tribunals and provides opportunities for research and training otherwise unavailable in this country.
During the 1990s courts in Australia and elsewhere were recognising new challenges by taking a more analytical approach to management and by adopting new ways of handling litigation. The Centre operated as a clearing house for quality research and writing on these issues. It offered consultancy and advice to courts and departments in areas ranging from case flow and litigation management to the evaluation of court programs and other policy initiatives.
