Dial-up/Modem Settings

The University of Wollongong provides modem facilities to allow staff of this University to gain access to the computer network from home.

Note: Connection is limited to three hours.

Please be aware that:

  1. Modem facilities are provided for academic use only.
  2. Under no circumstances are you to use irc, myd, talk, ytalk or its variants
  3. Your access may be restricted if you breach these rules (see - Rules Governing the Use of University Computer Facilities)

Proxy Settings
The automatic configuration script is http://www.uow.edu.au/autoproxy.pac

To configure Internet Explorer

  • Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options and then click on the Connections tab.
  • Select UOW Dial-up account and click on the Settings button.
  • Place a tick in the Use Automatic Configuration Script and type http://www.uow.edu.au/autoproxy.pac
  • Click OK

To configure Netscape Communicator

  • Go to Edit menu and choose Preferences. Under the list of categories, open the Advanced folder and choose Proxies.
  • Fill in the Automatic proxy as http://www.uow.edu.au/autoproxy.pac
  • Click the Reload button.
  • Click OK.

If you are unable to establish a PPP connection, check carefully over each step. If you are unable to fix the problem you can arrange to bring your computer to ITS for a PPP installation/configuration service with ITS (42213775). There is a charge for this service and bookings are essential.
