Q:

How do I get an After Hours' Proximity Card for building 3?

A:

To be eligible for an after hours' proximity card, you must:
1. be an Informatics student, and
2. Be enrolled in a SITACS subject
You can purchase an after-hours' Proximity Card from the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre. You will need to produce your student identification card.
The processing fee for a Proximity Card is $21.00.

Q:

How do I amend my After Hours' Proximity Card?

A:

If you meet the below eligibility criteria:
1. currently have an after hours' proximity card;
2. be enrolled in the same degree as when the proximity card was purchased.
You can amend your access by filling in an after hours' proximity card form, available at the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre.

What type of computer software is available in each lab?

Where can I get more print quota?

A:

You can purchase print quota from the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre. Print Quota can only be purchased in multiples of 100 pages for $11.00 and is updated within approximately 5 minutes.

Q:

I can't log on. Why isn't my password working?

A:

You should refer to the posters that are on the walls in the SITACS labs and in the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre. If after you have followed all directions and still can't log on, you can speak to the SITACS technical support staff between 9:30 and 10:30 each morning and from 2:00 - 3:00 each afternoon, in the Informatics Enquiry Centre.

Q:

Where is lost property kept?

A:

If any lost property is found and handed into the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre, it will be kept for approximately two weeks and, if not claimed, will be taken to the Security Office in Bldg 11.

Q:

How can I book camera equipment?

A:

Faculty of Informatics Students can book equipment between 9:30 and 10:30 each morning and from 2:00 - 3:00 each afternoon, in the Informatics Enquiry Centre.
Items are subject to availability and should be booked in advance.
You will be required to provide your student identification card and sign a loan form.

Q:

Can I leave a form for the Associate Dean (academic) to sign?

A:

Forms that require the Associate Dean (academic) approval can be left at the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre. Once the Associate Dean (academic) has signed the form it will be taken to Student Services, this process usually takes two days.
The progress of your form can be checked through SOLS, alternatively, you can contact Student Services.

Q:

When can I speak to an academic?

A:

If you need to speak to an academic outside of class time you should see them during (consultation times), unless you have an appointment. Staff in the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre can advise when lecturers are available, however this information is also listed on the web in the subject outline.

Q:

Who do I speak to if I have paper and printer issues?

A:

If a student has sufficient print quota but there is no paper in the printers, they should advise staff in the Informatics Student Enquiry Centre, who will inform the technical staff.

Q:

What is ILIP?

A:

There are two compulsory information Literacies introduction programs. ILIP aims to enable all students to attain a minimum level of information literacy skills at the start of their first year of study. Information literacy skills are concerned with the ability to locate, use and evaluate information effectively, and are part of the profile of a Wollongong University graduate. LIP100 is for Undergraduate students; and ILIP009 is for new Postgraduate coursework students who have not been enrolled in the past five years.
Students are required to complete various tasks for ILIP.
Students may attend information sessions held in the library or complete an online tutorial. For more information go to:

Q:

My course status says probation or refferal, what does this mean?

A:

Students who fail to perform satisfactorily in a mandatory placement component of a course, or for other specified reasons, is deemed to be unlikely to perform satisfactorily in the placement and therefore has been assessed as unsuitable to continue. A restricted rate of progress is based on each individual and any concerns should be taken up with the Associate Dean (academic).

What forms can I access from the Informatics Student Enquiries Centre?

Credit or Exemption - (Yellow form)

This is to be used by students who are seeking Advanced Standing (Credit Exemption).
A student may seek advanced standing on the basis of studies completed prior to their enrolment. Studies undertaken at other Universities and Colleges of Advanced Education, including domestic providers, such as TAFE may be considered.
Applications for Advanced Standing must be accompanied by full documentation of previous studies, with photocopies of the relevant pages from the Handbook/Calendar of the institution concerned, and a certified transcript. The form must be initilled by the student's course co-ordinator and signed by the Informatics Faculty Associate Dean (academic).


Change of Undergraduate Degree - (Pink form)
Also available from Student Central in Bldg 17. and can be downloaded from the web:

This is for Undergraduate students who are transferring from one degree to another. This form must be initialed by the course co-ordinator of the degree into which the student is transferring, and then signed by the Associate Dean (academic).
Postgraduate Application to Vary Course Registration - (White form)
Also available from Student Central in Bldg 17. and can be downloaded from the web:

This form is for postgraduate coursework students who are transferring from one degree to another within their School/Unit/Department.
For courses not under the Faculty of Informatics, a new application is required


Change of Major/Specialisation - (Green form)

This form is for Undergraduate students and must be initiled by the Course Coordinator and Associate Dean (academic) only if the change is for one of the degrees listed on the form.
Postgraduate students must go to Student Central to change course major.


Add/Delete Subjects - (White form)
Also available from Student Central in Bldg 17. and can be downloaded from the web:

Subjects can be added and deleted via the web until 5 March (Autumn, 2006) and 30 July (Spring, 2006). After that date, an Academic Approval Form will need to be filled out.
This form must be initialed by the subject co-ordinator, and then signed by the Head of School.


Leave of Absence - (Purple form)

An Undergraduate student can apply for leave of absence after the second session of enrolment. Leave may be taken for up to one year, provided the Academic Registrar is notified prior to the fourth week of the first session for which leave is sought.
Masters and Honours students can also apply for leave of absence but must also have written consent from their supervisor.


Cross Institutional Study - (Green form)

If you wish to study a subject at another institution and have it accredited towards your degree at UOW, you must complete an application for cross-institutional study at another university.
This form needs to be signed by the Associate Dean (academic) after consultation with, and approval from the Academic Head of Unit.

Application To Substitute A Subject or Vary a Course Requirement Forms - (White Application Form)
This for is only for students enrolled in a Faculty if Informatics course who need to substitute a subject prescribed in their course or vary a course requirement.
This form needs to be signed by the course co-ordinator and the Head of School or Associate Dean (academic).
