School of Information Systems & Technology (SISAT)

Graduate with Honours

All SISAT undergraduate degrees can be taken as an Honours degree i.e. BIT (Hons) or BBIS (Hons). An Honours degree is one year longer than the normal degree and allows the student to do a research project. The research project isn’t just looking things up in the library, it’s actually solving a problem that academics are interested in solving. It is an excellent qualification in itself and it paves the way for a student to do a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy).

An Honours year consists of doing:

• a special subject on How to do Research (1 subject)
• an academic research project (equivalent to 3 subject) plus
• 4 high-level subjects designed for IS and IT managers

If you like the idea of solving problems that no one else has solved, then Honours may be a good choice for you. Note that you cannot enrol in an Honours degree when you start your undergraduate study, you have to wait until the end of your third year.
