SCSSE Seminar

Title: Business process change management
Speaker:
Mohammad Bhuiyan

Day:23/08/2007

Abstract: A key problem facing the business process management community is the problem of managing change in business processes. There are two key categories of drivers for process change: organizational changes that impact processes and operational changes (which can in turn impact organizational configurations). This seminar will describe our current work on process change management (that involves the correlation of organizational and process models) and identify some open questions that we seek to address. We will describe a parsimonious extension to the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) that permits lightweight semantic annotation of process models. Based on this extension, we present a technique for establishing semantic links between these extended process models and organizational models represented in the i* notation. This provides the setting necessary for deploying a range of change management strategies. We will describe some of these and highlight open questions in this context.
