Faculty of Informatics - Research
Dean’s Encouragement Grants (DEG)

Background

The Faculty of Informatics is committed to further developing excellence in research and improving research quality and throughput, supporting a number of faculty based research centres/groups and research initiatives, and providing small grants to individual staff members. While most grants fund specific research projects, and do not necessarily provide support for staff career development plans, the Dean’s Encouragement Grant (DEG) scheme is designed to support and reward initiative, and encourage staff members to fulfil their intellectual ambition and research potential.

The key features of this scheme are:

  • The maximum funding for any proposal is $20,000 and the minimum is $5,000.
  • The scheme is intended to support junior and early career staff (level C and below) whose proposals show clear promise of advancing the staff member’s research career goals and enhancing the Faculty’s research excellence.
  • DEG funds may be spent on any research activity, including equipment and teaching relief.
