A new opportunity for aspiring mathematicians

A fundraising dinner for the Grant Cox Fund for Aspiring Mathematicians brought together alumni, friends, industry partners, staff and students from across the university on Friday 3 August.

The fund was established by the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics to help students from regional areas meet the costs of relocating to undertake a mathematics degree at UOW. “All the evidence suggests that the greatest impediment to success regional students is actually getting to university in the first place, so this fund will help students clear that hurdle,” said the Head of School, Prof Jacqui Ramagge.

The fund commemorates the work and contribution of Dr Grant Cox, a popular and respected Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics & Applied Statistics, who passed away unexpectedly in 2011 at the age of 35. Grant was originally from Bathurst.
