Financial Support for Domestic and International Students
Domestic Students
Students from AMSI member institutions are eligible for travel and accommodation subsidies upon application. We gratefully acknowledge the federal government for its 7th consecutive year of support for the Summer school. Since last year, the funding system has changed, so that we have to restrict to approximately 70 the number of places with travel and accommodation provided. Due to the aim of the Summer School, students enrolled in an honours or coursework masters program who have registered before 21st Nov 08 will be given priority for subsidised places. The lower registration fee will still apply to all registrants from AMSI member institutions irrespective of other subsidies.
The accommodation has been booked at Weerona College and only requires you to indicate whether you will be staying at Weerona College on the application/registration form. If you qualify for a subsidy, your accommodation including breakfast, and a weekly allowance will be paid. If you do not qualify, you will need to pay the University of Wollongong on arrival for accommodation and breakfast. The rate is $60.00 per night. In general no accommodation subsidies are available for students from within the Illawarra area.
The registration fee for students from AMSI member and associate member institutions is $185.00. For students from other institutions the fee is $925.00.
You are required to make your own travel arrangements. If you are from an AMSI member institution and live outside the Illawarra area, you are eligible to apply for a travel subsidy. You will then be reimbursed for your travel expenses at the flat rate listed below.
If you live outside of the areas listed below please contact the organisers.

International Students
International students are invited to attend the AMSI Summer School. The courses are aimed at honours students and coursework masters in mathematics and cognate disciplines. Postgraduate students and early career academics would also benefit. If acceptable to their home institutions, students can be assessed and receive credit for one or two courses of 28 contact hours each.
The registration fee is $AU925.00 (which includes GST). Please see below for further information on available subsidies.
ICE-EM PRIMA Accommodation Subsidies
ICE-EM is offering up to ten subsidies for accommodation for four weeks to postgraduate students enrolled full-time in universities that are members of the Pacific Rim Mathematical Association (PRIMA) to participate in the Summer School. The subsidies cover the cost of room and board at Weerona college.
Because of reciprocal relations amongst PRIMA institutions, PRIMA students pay the same registration fees as AMSI students - that is, $AU185.
You must be enrolled full-time in a PRIMA university. You should have English language skills equivalent to IELTS level 6.5, although level 7 is preferred for students seeking assessment.
You should submit an application/registration form, but do not have to pay the registration fee until you know whether or not they have been awarded one of the subsidies.
In addition you should submit the following in any common format, such as PDF or text:
- Undergraduate record (honours students) or CV (Master’s or PhD students)
- Letter of support/recommendation from supervisor
- Statement giving reasons for wishing to attend the AMSI Summer School (up to one page)
- Indication of English language level, such as TOEFL or IELTS scores, previous study or conference attendance in an English speaking country, or publication of papers in English.
Applications close on 21st Nov 08, and you will be notified by email shortly thereafter.
