Bachelor of Mathematics + Bachelor of Computer Science
UAC course code 751701
There is a high demand in industry and commerce for quality graduates who have expertise in more than one discipline. This joint course provides graduates with training in one of the most sought after combinations, Computer Science and either Mathematics or Applied Statistics.
The Bachelor of Computer Science provides the foundation for a career in information technology. The study of computing concepts is reinforced with regular programming assignments and team projects. Computer Science teaches students the craft of programming.
Mathematics underpins much modern Computer Science and, conversely, the computer is a necessary tool for a modern mathematician as it has enabled complex and powerful mathematical procedures to be developed and applied. This combination equips the graduate to understand and build the technology for the next century, and to use the technology powerfully and appropriately in any setting.
Students acquire valuable skills that are transferable to a wide variety of careers: such as problem solving, logic, analysis of data, creative design, working in teams and written and verbal communication. As part of the Mathematics degree, students attend meetings with their academic mentor to design an individual program of study. Students may select areas of particular interest from mathematical analysis, industrial and applied mathematics and applied statistics.
