Prizes and Scholarships
For all prizes available in the School:
• the winner is determined by the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics;
• the award shall not be made in any year in which no candidate is considered to be of sufficient merit;
• a student may receive each prize only once;
• the prizes are awarded at the Faculty prizegiving ceremony.
Broadbridge Prize
The prize will be awarded annually to the candidate with the best academic performance in MATH111 Applied Mathematical Modelling I.
Award: $200 plus certificate.

Applied Probability Trust Prize for Second Year Mathematics
The award shall be made to the candidate who has the best average in four 200 level Mathematics subjects, these being: either MATH212 or MATH222, together with any three of MATH201, MATH202, MATH203, or MATH204.
Award: $200 plus certificate.

The R.A. Fisher Prize
The award shall be open annually to all candidates in the year in which STAT232 is satisfactorily completed, and will be based on performance in STAT232 and the better of STAT131, if studied, and STAT231.
Award: $200 plus certificate.
Tibra Capital prize for best performance in the BMath-BCompSc degree
The student with the highest WAM amongst students who have completed a minimum of 96 credit points in the BMath-BCompSc degree. Any candidate can only win this prize once

Tibra Capital prize for best performance in MATH317
Open to all candidates who complete the subject MATH317. Not awarded if the highest mark is lower than 75%

S.A. Senior Prize
The award shall be open to candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Mathematics and shall be made to the candidate who most earns the best average mark in four 300 level mathematics subjects. A candidate may only receive this prize once.
Award: $200 plus certificate.

The William Sealy Gosset Prize
The award shall be open annually to all candidates who complete a major study in Statistics at the 300 level in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, but not open to a candidate who has enrolled more than once in any of the subjects in respect of which the award is offered. For the purpose of this prize, candidates who have satisfactorily completed at least 3 of the subjects STAT304, STAT332, STAT333 and STAT335 will be considered to have completed a major study in Statistics.
Award: $200 plus certificate.

The Austin Keane Memorial Prize
The award shall be open to candidates for honours degrees in Mathematics and shall be made to the candidate who performs best in the subject MATH401 or equivalent.
Award: $250 plus certificate.

Tibra Capital prize for best performance in the BMath-Fin degree
The student with the highest WAM amongst students who have completed a minimum of 120 credit points in the BMathFin degree. Any candidate can only win this prize once

The Austin Keane Vacation Scholarship Candidates must obtain at least Distinction grade in 24 cp of 300 level mathematics subjects offered by the School. If a candidate completes more than 24 cp, only the subjects having the best marks will be considered.
Students who wish to be considered for the Scholarship should email the Head of School in October. The scholarship cannot be deferred.
Award: 8 weeks work on a research project during summer vacation, supported by a grant that is 2 months pro-rata of the annual stipend of the p/g award.
Tibra Capital Work Integrated Learning Scholarship
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in BMath, BMath(Adv), BMathFin or any Maths double degree at the University of Wollongong.
Applicants must maintain a credit average for the duration of scholarship.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
Applicants must be able to complete work experience during the Summer break.
Award: $15,000/year for work experience during the Summer break.
Apply via Scholarships Office. (cutoff date usually in Sept)
Tibra Capital Mathematics Scholarship
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in their First (1st) Year BMath, BMath(Adv), BMathFin or any Maths double degree at the University of Wollongong.
Applicants must have a UAI of 90.
Applicants must maintain a credit average for the duration of scholarship.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia
Applicants will automatically be considered for the $15,000 Work Integrated Learning Scholarship at the end of their 1st year.
Award: $7,000/year for work experience during the Summer break.

Summer Vacation Scholarships
The aim of the program is to attract prospective higher degree research students. It offers students an opportunity to evaluate for themselves, and to demonstrate to others, their potential for research work.
• Students must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
• Students must have completed a minimum of 2 years of an undergraduate degree at a standard acceptable for admission to an honours course, and should intend to do honours.
• Students must be continuing as a student at the University of Wollongong in the following year (this is a requirement for insurance coverage).
• If the student has previously held a Vacation Scholarship, the supervisor must justify in writing their reasons for wishing to award another scholarship.
• Existing Honours, PhD or Masters by Research students are not eligible to apply.
• The student will be required to provide a report at the end of the scholarship. It is to be submitted to the Head of School via the supervisor within a month of completion. Award: $3000 for 150 hours work on a research project during summer vacation.
