Guidelines

The guidelines are available in pdf by clicking on the relevant degree below. They will be updated at the beginning of each session. The guidelines will have changes made to them from time to time. In the case of a slight change or style change, which does not affect the outcome of the guidelines, they will not be made available during the session. However, changes pertinent to marking, subjects, presentation or thesis submission will be put on the website as soon as possible. Each version will be recorded in an additional appendix found at the end of the guidelines document for that degree.

Students should refer to the guidelines relevant to their degree to see what the requirement for page length should be. As a guide, students should ensure that the thesis is 1.5 or double spaced and printed on single sided A4 white paper. Although there is no standard layout, the Thesis should include the following:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Introduction

In addition to describing the work that you have carried out in your honours year, the body of your thesis should also contain a literature survey that places your work in a wider context. For more information regarding how to write a literature survey please read the following web-page
http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/postgrad/litreview/home.html

Please find below an example Latex file in the following documents. Please download these files and open the 'read me' file to find instructions. If there are any concerns, please contact Grant Cox. Latex courses are run during the session. Information about these courses are sent to students.
