Students should make themselves familiar with the rules for their degree by checking the guidelines available both on this website and available at the first meeting planned for Week 1. Enrolment InformationSubject Information AMSI Summer School 08-09 The Summer School is designed for honours and postgraduate students in the mathematical and statistical sciences and runs over four weeks from 12th January 2009 to 6th February 2009 and is being held at the University of Wollongong. Students should consult the Honours Coordinator before applying for the Summer School. Only one subject from Summer School will be counted towards your Honours degree. More information will be added to the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics about the summer school in the near future.
Topics offered via the Access Grid (2009) The nGAME (national Grid for Advanced Mathematics Education) has a helpful website with information about subjects offered via the Access Grid. Degree Specific Enrolment InformationBachelor of Mathematics (Honours) Please note: students intending on enrolling in the Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours) should make sure they have completed an Undergraduate Application form and submitted this to UniAdvice. Full-time students enrolling in this degree need to enrol in MATH402 or STAT402 (24 cp) two consecutive sessions on the SOLS system and complete the following internal enrolment form and return it to Kerrie Gamble (Admin Assistant). Part-time students enrol in MATH403 or STAT403 (12 cp) for four consecutive sessions. Bachelor of Mathematics Advanced (Honours) Please note: students intending on enrolling in the Bachelor of Mathematics Advanced (Honours) should make sure they have completed an Undergraduate Application form and submitted this to UniAdvice. Full-time s tudents enrolling in this degree need to enrol in MATH409 or STAT409 (24 cp) for two consecutive sessions on the SOLS system and complete the following internal enrolment form and return it to Kerrie Gamble (Admin Assistant). Part-time students enrol in MATH410 or STAT410 (12 cp) for four consecutive sessions. Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) and, Students enrolling in the above degrees should enrol in the project subject code - INFO401 OR INFO402 respectively on the SOLS system and consult the University Calendar for other subject information. Students studying the special Honours Coursework Topics under the codes MATH471, MATH472, STAT471, STAT472 etc. on the SOLS system, should complete the following internal enrolment form and return to the Administrative Assistant. It is imperative that this information be kept up to date for both degress in order that marks be awarded for the correct subject. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the Administrative Assistant is made aware of any change by using the following form. Change of enrolment forms for Project InformationStudents should talk to academic staff regarding a Project for their Honours degree or strand. Following is a list of projects available. Part of the requirement for your Honours degree is conducting two talks (one minor and one major talk). Please refer to your guidelines for specific information about these. Using Power Point is acceptable, however, following is a template for using Latex for your presentation. GuidelinesThe guidelines are available in pdf by clicking on the relevant degree below. They will be updated at the beginning of each session. The guidelines will have changes made to them from time to time. In the case of a slight change or style change, which does not affect the outcome of the guidelines, they will not be made available during the session. However, changes pertinent to marking, subjects, presentation or thesis submission will be put on the website as soon as possible. Each version will be recorded in an additional appendix found at the end of the guidelines document for that degree.
Thesis InformationStudents should refer to the guidelines relevant to their degree to see what the requirement for page length should be. As a guide, students should ensure that the thesis is 1.5 or double spaced and printed on single sided A4 white paper. Although there is no standard layout, the Thesis should include the following:
In addition to describing the work that you have carried out in your honours year, the body of your thesis should also contain a literature survey that places your work in a wider context. Please download these files and open the 'read me' file to find instructions. If there are any concerns, please contact Grant Cox. Latex courses are run during the session. Information about these courses are sent to students. Handing in Your ThesisYou should consult the guidelines for detailed information on procedures in handing in your completed thesis. You will need a cover sheet to go with the thesis which can be found below in pdf form. Submissions are due before 5pm on the Friday Week 11 of Autumn or Spring (depending on when you started).
