Summer Vacation Research Scholarships

At least 12 Summer Vacation Research Scholarships are offered across the Faculty each year to high calibre undergraduate students. Application forms are usually available from each School office from early to mid October each year.

Aim

The aim of the scheme is to provide students with an opportunity to engage in and gain experience in research in an area of interest and to evaluate for themselves, and demonstrate to others, their potential for research work. In addition, the scheme provides students with exposure to the research excellence of the University.

Eligibility
  • Students must be high achieving undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time and have completed at least two years of study
  • Students must be enrolled in a relevant program at UOW or another Australian University
  • Successful students may be asked to provide certified copies of academic transcripts
  • If a student has previously held a Summer Vacation Research Scholarship, the prospective supervisor must justify in writing their reasons for awarding another scholarship
  • The scholarships are open to both local and international students
  • Existing Honours, PhD or Masters Honours (Research) students are not eligible to apply
  • Each School may require applicants to meet additional criteria
Benefits
  • Students receive $300 per week (paid in fortnightly installments) for 10 weeks
  • The scholarships are available in a variety of research areas, commencing early December
  • Other benefits may be available, depending upon the School offering the scholarships
Application Process
  • Application forms and instructions for submission should be available from the relevant School Office from early to mid October
  • The closing date varies for each School, but falls in the period late October to early November each year
