SECTE Summer Research Scholarships
Are you self motivated with a strong work ethic?
Summer research scholarships provide students with an opportunity to explore the world of research and the unique opportunities that the School has on offer.
What's Involved?
If successful students will undertake the required research as directed by the designated Project Supervisor. Students must:
- attend a minimum of three (3) meetings with the supervisor;
- submit a mid-project progress report; and
- submit a final hard copy project report (including an evaluation of the experience).
The final project report must be submitted to the Project Supervisor at the completion of the project in February 2012.
Two (2) copies of the final report will need to be submitted as they will be viewed and signed by the Head of School within one month of the completion of the Scholarship.
Duration and Value
Scholarships run for a period of 10 weeks and are anticipated to commence on Monday, 28 November 2011 (this date will be negotiated in consultation with the project Supervisor).
The total value of the Scholarship is $3,000.
This money will be paid in two (2) instalments: the first is in mid January and the final payment is on completion.
Eligibility
To be eligible to be considered for one of the available Scholarships students must:
- be an undergraduate student;
- be enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical, Computer or Telecommunications) Engineering degree in Spring Session 2011;
- be entering their second or third year in Autumn Session 2012;
- have a minimum average mark of 70; and
- advise if a Summer research scholarship has previously been held and obtain a reference from their supervisor to validate in writing why an additional scholarship should be awarded;
Note: These Scholarships cannot be used to count toward the Professional Experience requirement.

Application
To apply for one of the two (2) available Scholarship students will need to complete an application form and submit this along with the following documents:
- Current CV
- Academic Transcript (a certified copy is required)
- Written Referee Reports (two (2) preferably)
These documents must be in hard copy and received by the School's Administrative Officer, Mr Tim McDonald (Building 35, Room G36) by 5.00 pm on Friday, 4th November 2011.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Selection Process
Successful applicants who are "short listed" will be required to attend an interview.
All applicants will be advised via email of the outcome of their respective application.
