Challenge History...
The Challenge originated at the University of Newcastle in 2000. In 2004 the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST), now known as the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) recognized the possibilities of the event and provided financial assistance for the program to go national.
By 2007 the Challenge had officially expanded to include every state and territory of Australia reaching approximately 15,500 students from over 500 schools with the assistance of over 2500 volunteers. The Challenge in nationally sponsored by the Australian Constructors Association and without this along with the support of the Federal Government, Rotary International, Engineers Australia and numerous regional sponsors this growth would not have been possible.
The School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, University of Wollongong, has been proud to host the Illawarra and South East Regional Challenge since 2007.
Working with the Faculty’s of Informatics, Science and Engineering, Rotary Club of Wollongong and Engineers Australia, the School is looking forward to hosting this successful event in 2011 and beyond!
