A student representative's role is to be the voice of the Informatics' student body on Informatics' governance committees. This is a rewarding role, exposing students to corporate governance procedures, rules of meetings, familiarisation with agendas and minutes, and a closer relationship with the Faculty's academic and executive staff. Student representatives are profiled on the Faculty web site and broadcast to the student body along with contact details.
The Committees to which students are elected generally meet six times per year and generally every two months. A meetings schedule for 2011 is available by clicking here.
An agenda for an upcoming meeting is forwarded a week prior to the meeting and minutes from the meeting a appear on the Faculty web site a week later. Meetings generally last for 1-1/2 hours. Assistance with raising issues emanating from the student body is available through the secretaries of the various committees.
An orientation session is held to inform elected students of the Committee process, and their role in that process, where lunch will be provided. This is an opportunity to meet the Dean and the Heads of the Faculty's three Schools, and to network with other representative colleagues both past and present.
Student representative terms commence on 1 May 2011 and expire on 30 April 2012.
